Introduction

Energycom is proud to publish the fourth edition of the Israeli Energy Mapping Report.

In 2024, the energy high–tech community in Israel experienced both challenges and opportunities because of the ongoing conflict in Gaza. The immediate effects are, on one hand, economic uncertainty and workforce challenges, and on the other hand, they push the ecosystem toward innovation, especially in energy security and resilience technologies.

The situation escalates the urgency for energy independence, prompting high-tech firms to accelerate innovations in renewable energy, battery storage, alternative fuels, and grid balancing with distributed energy technologies.

Indeed, we see research and development efforts focused on technologies with immediate relevance, such as energy resilience, cybersecurity in energy systems, microgrids, and mobile solutions that can be rapidly deployed in times of crisis.

Another interesting phenomenon is the collaboration between the energy high-tech sector and defense agencies to develop dual-use technologies that serve both civilian and military purposes.

Here are six key points about the Israeli high-tech sector in 2024:

1. Renewable Energy Expansion – Israel continues to expand its electricity from renewable sources, aiming to reach 30% by 2030.

2. Energy storage solution – The energy storage market is growing significantly, targeting 5 GW in the next five years.

3. Agrivoltaics – Israel is a pioneer in combining solar panels with agricultural practices. The primary purpose is to increase land–use efficiency for energy production while sustaining agrarian output.

4. Other sectors, such as Electric Mobility, Green Hydrogen Development, Smart Grid technology, and energy Efficiency innovations, contribute to the dynamics and growth of the energy high-tech sector.

5. A key factor for success is collaboration with research institutions and universities.

6. The Israeli government, through its agencies and ministries, plays a significant role by allocating funds and grants to start-up companies, from early-stage to mature companies.

The Israeli Energy Mapping report is part of Energycom's ongoing initiatives to chart the landscape of companies, entrepreneurs, researchers, and investors contributing to Israel's energy field.
